At least a dozen people have been injured, including a young child, after a car ploughed into pedestrians in a crowded part of Australia's second-largest city, officials said Thursday.

Paramedics were "treating and transporting to hospital 12 people", with some seriously injured, ambulance officials in Melbourne said.
