The head of the French Socialist party Jean-Christophe Cambadelis has lost his parliamentary seat after crashing out in the first round of elections for the new National Assembly on Sunday, according to official results.
The result is a further humiliation for the party that formed the last government but is now fighting for survival. Projections suggest it will fall to 15-40 seats from 277 currently.
