Portugal's emergency services said that no water-bombing planes battling the country's raging forest fires crashed on Tuesday, contrary to an earlier statement that an aircraft had gone down.
Civil protection chief Victor Vaz Pinto said that no planes had been lost in the ongoing operation to douse blazes that killed 64 people at the weekend, after a spokesman said a firefighting craft crashed in central Portugal.
