Honouring

The ‘1001 Titles’ project, launched by the Sharjah-based cultural initiative Knowledge without Borders, KwB, recently honoured a select group of authors and publishers in recognition of their efforts and contributions to the project’s success.

The event was attended by Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KwB, Majd Al Shehhi, Manager of '1001 Titles', and a number of media representatives, authors and publishers.

The attendees addressed a number of key issues with regards to raising the quality of the publishing industry in the UAE, and explored the possibilities of encouraging creative experiments and alternative projects. They also discussed the importance of communicating and exchanging ideas with each other, while keeping readers at the forefront of their inspiration.

The authors and publishers commended the instrumental role of the KwB initiative, and the impact of '1001 Titles' as one of the region’s leading literary programmes, pointing out its spectrum of tangible results and cultural achievements since its inception.

The project’s representatives stressed that '1001 Titles' would continue to hold direct communication sessions periodically to enhance interaction and build stronger relationships, in order to explore new ideas and visions.

Launched in 2016, in alignment with the Year of Reading in the UAE, the ‘1001 Titles’ project aims to enrich the cultural and literary ties with Emirati publications and emphasise Sharjah’s status as an intellectual leader in the wider region. It also aims to release 1001 Emirati books in 2016–17.
