Eleven soldiers were killed and 25 others injured during clashes with extremists in the district of Sidi Khalid in Derna, said spokesman for Libya's army Col. Ahmed Mesmari.
The army launched an attack on the extremists in Sisi Khalid, leaving 11 soldiers dead and 25 others wounded, Mesmari said.
More than 30 extremists were killed during the clashes, he said.
Libya has been torn by conflict since the fall of Col Gaddafi, with rival militias battling for control of cities and resources.
