Security authorities at the Suez canal were on high alert after reports of an explosion. Witnesses said earlier they heard an explosion around dawn near a residential area about one kilometre from the canal. “We are currently looking for the source of the explosion and we are combing ?the area by the two banks of the Canal. We are still not sure if the explosion was the result of a rocket ?launch or if it was a landmine that went off on the east ?bank,”? a security source said. An official in the Suez Canal Authority said shipping was operating as normal. There were no immediate reports of any deaths or injuries.
