Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri has held consultations with his Arab counterparts pondering prospects of halting the escalated Israeli attacks on Gaza, the foreign ministry official spokesman said on Monday.
Ambassador Bader Abdulati said in a statement that minister Shukri conducted telephone calls with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed and US Secretary of State John Kerry, as part of pursuing contacts with Arab and international parties to stop the deadly attacks on the Palestinians in Gaza.
Minister Shukri discussed with his counterparts ideas for halting any further escalation of the attacks and prospects of enforcing a cease-fire as part of the Egyptian initiative that has been substantially supported at the Arab and international levels.
Cairo has recently proposed enforcement of a cease-fire to halt nearly two weeks of military offensives on Gaza; to be followed with talks involving Israeli and Palestinian officials on means of keeping the peace and easing up hardships of the besieged Gazans.
The official statement also indicated that the minister held similar talks with his Moroccan counterpart.
