An Egyptian police officer was shot dead by smugglers on Thursday morning near the Egypt-Israel border, security sources said. Islam Ahmad Ramadan Saed, 21, confronted smugglers trying to transport African migrants into Israel, south of the Kerem Shalom crossing. Sources said he was shot in the chest and died at the scene. The smugglers managed to evade arrest, escaping towards Egyptian territory.
