Baghdad - Jaafar Al Nasrawi
Iraqi Defence Minister Saadoun al-Dulaimi has said "delusional" groups that "threaten democracy" in his country will be handled "very strictly."
Speaking Wednesday at an arms expo in Baghdad, the minister said: "Those who threaten democracy must not labour under the illusion that they will be handled with kid gloves."
He added: "Return to your senses. Our patience is running out because Iraq is indivisible and we will not allow anyone to interfere with the country's interests." He said groups within Iraq who believe they can achieve their own ends at the expense of Iraqi unity and coexistence are "delusional."
Dulaimi also said countries taking part in the fair will be given precedence for weapons contracts. He also called on arms manufacturing countries to bring its stock to Iraq and compete for deals.
"Societal peace and development in any country require strength," he said, adding: "The Iraqi army respects the constitution and aims at safeguarding democracy and Iraqi lives and interests."
