Scores of Palestinian youths suffered suffocation when Israeli occupation forces, situated at the borders with the Gaza Strip, fired tear gas at members of the Intifada Youth Coalition during demonstrations marking the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, said local sources. The Israeli troops fired bullets into the air while military reinforcements were arrived to the area, added the sources. About 400 youths, who took part in the march, raised Palestinian flags and chanted anti-occupation slogans. The November 2, 1917 Balfour Declaration was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour to Baron Rothschild, a British Jewish leader. The document declared British support for the "establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people." Palestinians see the declaration as paving the way for the creation of the State of Israel at the expense of the land's original inhabitants. Source: MENA
