Jordan’s Bar Association has announced the formation of a team of lawyers to monitor the legislative performance of the 17th House of Representatives. Chairman Noor Imam told Arabstoday the aim of the new team is to “analyse legislation and its compatibility with Jordan’s constitution, as well as international laws and conventions.” The team, the first of its kind, responded to the House’s approval of “laws not conforming with international conventions,” Imam claimed. The Bar Association has already expressed reservations regarding Jordan’s new Press and Publications law, which seems to restrict Internet freedoms. The House of Representatives has its own legal committee to study laws, consisting of Jordanian politicians with legal backgrounds.
