A wide-scale military operation has been launched against an Algerian jihadist group in various areas in the country, Algeria's al-Khabar newspaper reported Monday, citing a well-placed security source.
Ground and air forces will partake in the operation against the group dubbed "Jund al-Khilafa," an ally of Daesh, the source said.
The operation is meant to prevent the terrorist group from transferring its activities to new areas and obtaining weapons.
Algeria is on high alert due to the rise of Islamist militancy in the country.
