Baghdad – Jaafar Al Nasrawi
The Grand Mufti of Iraq, Sheikh Rafi Rifai has said he holds Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki responsible for the recent escalation in bomb attacks across the country.
Speaking to Arab Today, the Muslim cleric accused Maliki of \"a plot\" against the Sunni communities in Iraq, adding the PM was being supported by members of the Badr Organisation and Hezbollah in Iraq.
Sheikh Rifai argued that the Iraqi PM had successfully \"fabricated a crisis to remain in power,\" adding that Maliki had turned to militias affiliated with al-Qaeda to target ?the Sunni communities.
\"Maliki was behind the prison breaks Abu Ghraib and Taji detention centres, because he wanted to smuggle the ?prisoners to achieve his aims,\" he argued.?
The grand mufti said that the recent bomb attacks in Iraq were being carried out by groups supported by Maliki. He urged civilian groups in some of the governorates to file a case against Maliki at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), for being involved in \"the killing of innocent civilians and violating human rights.\"
Commenting on the current situation in Egypt, Sheikh Rifai said: \"What is happening on Egypt does not concern Iraq. We need to stay calm and make sure we\'re not dragging Iraq into Egypt\'s internal affairs.\"
