Khartoum – Abedalgoum Ashmeag
Saudi Arabia refused to allow a plane carrying Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir from entering its airspace on Sunday, blocking it from attending the inauguration of Iran\'s new president Hassan Rouhani.
The flight carrying Bashir, along with his foreign, investment and agriculture ministers was forced to turn around and go back to Sudan.
Iran and Saudi Arabia have uneasy relations, which were strained further following the crisis in Syria between President Bashar al-Assad’s Shiite forces and Sunni fighters seeking to remove him from power.
The pilot said that Saudi authorities refused to allow the plane to enter even after being informed that the president was on board.
