Syrian deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad has stopped off at Beirut International Airport ahead of a diplomatic delegation bound for the Russian capital, local media has reported.
Mekdad will meet with Russian officials in Moscow on Wednesday.
Syrian officials have reportedly stopped using Damascus International Airport for the last six months amid security concerns.
The opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) has taken control of main roads leading to the airport, which is located 22 kilometres from the heart of the capital.
