Nearly 2200 Palestinians killed during Gaza war

The head of a United Nations inquiry into the 50-day war in Gaza last summer has resigned after Israel accused him of a "conflict of interest", the UN said Tuesday.
"The president of the (UN) Human Rights Council, ambassador Joachim Ruecker of Germany, received a letter from Professor William Schabas last night in which Professor Schabas indicates he is resigning as chair and member of the commission of inquiry on the Gaza conflict with immediate effect," Rolando Gomez, spokesman for the council, told reporters.
