Beirut - Arabstoday
Eight members of the Internal Security Forces and two Egyptian nationals were wounded Saturday during a stone-throwing protest outside the Egyptian embassy in Beirut. The eight ISF members along with the two Egyptians have been transferred to nearby hospitals. Around 100 Egyptian workers stoned the embassy and the ISF demanding the elimination of the sponsorship system for foreign laborers in Lebanon, which obliges workers to have an agent in order to have a residency permit. Three of the eight ISF members are in serious condition with wounds to the head and chest. Twelve Egyptians have been detained. Lebanese labor law stipulates that foreign nationals who wish to work in Lebanon must have a sponsor. Syrians are the only foreigners exempted from this requirement.
