An Air Self-Defense Force jet carrying six people disappeared from radar over Kagoshima Prefecture on Wednesday afternoon, the ASDF announced, according to Kyodo News.

The U-125 disappeared from radar at around 2:35 p.m. while it was flying about 10 km north of the Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Kanoya base in Kanoya, Kagoshima.

U-125 aircraft are often used in search-and-rescue missions.

SDF troops and other authorities were searching for the missing aircraft.
