Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb said Muslim countries have all potentials of welfare, yet they suffer from the mismanagement of these prospects.
In a speech given Tuesday by Al Azhar undersecretary Abbas Shoman on behalf of Tayyeb, he said Western states have achieved welfare as they have successfully managed and made use of their little resources.
These remarks were made on the sidelines of a conference, dubbed "Environment, population, development in Muslim World countries" organized by Al Azhar University in cooperation with the League of Islamic Universities and the Geographical Association of Egypt.
Tayyeb pointed to the strenuous efforts exerted by Al Azhar in order to improve the image of Islam worldwide.
The bloody events that occurred over the past few days in Egypt, he noted, have proved that terrorists do not follow any religious teachings as they targeted both Muslims and Christians.
On Friday Dec 9, a bomb attack targeted a checkpoint near a mosque in Giza's Haram district, leaving six policemen dead and three others injured.
Meanwhile, 25 people were killed while 49 others were injured in an explosion that occurred inside El Boutrosiya Church during Sunday mass.
El Boutrosiya Church is only meters away from the St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in the Abbasiya district in Cairo.
