Arab League Secretary-General Nabil el-Araby met Tuesday with visiting Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolai Mladenov. The meeting addressed the latest developments in the region, especially in the Syrian file and the violent clashes witnessed in neighborhoods and different cities between the Free Syrian Army and the regime. They also discussed the situation in Palestine and the ongoing settlement building by the Israeli occupation, which impedes security, peace, stability, and coexistence, an Arab League statement said. El-Araby welcomed the French call for an urgent meeting of the Security Council at the foreign minister level to discuss developments of the dangerous situation in Syria and take the necessary measures to halt ongoing military operations. A clear answer to the current situation will be presented to the Security Council regarding the transitional phase, el-Araby said in addition to the "regretful" events which have been taking place since a few days ago in Aleppo and other places. The Arab League Secretary-General considered them to have reached the level of war crimes punishable by international law.
