German parliament, The Bundestag, agreed on Friday to extend the mission of German troops in Kosovo for another year. 486 PMs voted in favour of the extension decision against 70 opposing PMs, all of them belong to the Left bloc, while 8 members abstained. The in-favour votes came from members of the ruling collation of Christian Alliance, to which Chancellor Angela Merkel belongs, and Free Democratic Party FDP, in addition to members from Socialist Democratic Party SDP and the Green Party. The NATO-led international peacekeeping force in Kosovo, KFOR, consists of 6200 soldiers, 1300 of them are German. Kosovo is the longest foreign mission involving German troops since 1999, it is also the second largest involving German troops after Afghanistan where there are currently 4700 German soldiers.
