Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met on Wednesday with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is currently visiting Beijing . The Chinese official said during the meeting that his country opposes developing and owning nuclear weapons by any country in the Middle East , and that it is still committed to a just and objective attitude towards the Iranian nuclear issue and is working to resolve it through diplomatic means. He added that his country is keen to cooperate with Iran, and respects the development path chosen by the people of Iran, and supports the efforts of the Iranian side to push the economic development and improve people\'s livelihood .. The Chinese official meantime pointed out that trade and economic relations between the two countries are built on bases of equality and mutual benefit that are consistent with the needs of economic development in both countries. For his part, President Ahmadinejad said that his country is ready to make more efforts with China to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in all fields, and expand cultural exchanges to push forward the cooperation relations. Iranian President is participating in the twelfth meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization being held in Beijing on Wednesday and Thursday.
