Ioannis Kasoulides

Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday received a phone call from his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides regarding the hijacked EgyptAir plane, spokesman for the ministry Ahmed Abu Zaid said in a statement.

"We shall always be supportive to Egypt at all times", the statement quoted Kasoulides as saying during the call.

For his part, Shouky thanked his Cypriot counterpart for providing full support and close cooperation with the Egyptian authorities during the hijacking incident.

Earlier, the Cypriot Foreign Ministry announced that the hijacked Egyptian plane situation is over and its hijacker has been arrested.

The EgyptAir Airbus A320, with 50 passengers on board along with seven cabin crew members and one security officer, was hijacked earlier in the day and forced to land in Cyprus.

Flight MS181 passenger plane was originally travelling from Alexandra's Borg El Arab Airport to Cairo.
