Egypt's Ambassador to Brussels Ihab Fawzi

Egypt's Ambassador to Brussels Ihab Fawzi asserted on Saturday the importance of a visit of an Egyptian parliamentary delegation to the European Parliament to expound the truth about conditions in Egypt.

In statements to MENA, the ambassador said the trip is the first after the Egyptian parliamentary elections.

"It was very useful," the envoy said, adding that the delegation met with different political groups at the European Parliament. They replied on all inquires, he said.

They conferred with two committees on foreign affairs and human rights to discuss conditions in Egypt and review Cairo's viewpoints on several issues.

They asserted Egypt's commitment and keenness on the principles of human rights, he said.

As for the murder of Italian national Giulio Regeni, the ambassador said that the delegation asserted that Egyptian security bodies spared no efforts to unveil the circumstances of the incident and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Cairo is keen on full cooperation with Italy in this case in light of good ties, he said.

The meetings contributed to boosting contacts between the Egyptian and European parliaments, he said.

The delegation comprised 13 lawmakers.
