Egypt is one of the top ten troops contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations, said a foreign ministry official on Sunday.
Speaking at a symposium hosted by the Faculty Economics and Political Science, First Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry Ayman Kamel said that Egypt launched several initiatives related to combating the extremist ideologies and terrorism and renewing religious discourse.
Egypt hosts more than 15 regional offices of the UN organizations and their specialized agencies, he further said.
UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt El Mostafa Benlamlih, for his part, said that the UN appreciates its partnership with Egypt for 71 years to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Strategy for Sustainable Development (Egypt Vision 2030).
Egypt is an effective member in the UN, he said, adding that Egypt became a non-permanent member in the UNSC for the fifth time.
Egypt is at the forefront of countries that contribute to peacekeeping operations since their inception, he added.
