FANR

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) hosted two "Meet Your Regulator" workshops in Abu Dhabi and Dubai as part of FANR’s efforts to build awareness about the nation’s regulatory system among companies and organisations that use radiation technologies for their work in the UAE. Since its establishment in 2009, FANR has been the sole authority to oversee the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear- and radiation-related technologies in the UAE.

Led by Aayda Al Shehi, Director of FANR’s Nuclear Safety Department, the workshops described FANR’s recent efforts to streamline its services for UAE licensees by enhancing efficiency and customer convenience. In particular, FANR used the workshop to demonstrate its new on-line, E-licensing service that will enable users to apply for new or renewed licenses, apply to import, export or transport radioactive materials, and submit routine operating records.

In addition, FANR recently opened an office at the Dubai Cargo Village to add convenience for licensees in Dubai and the Northern Emirates by providing a full range of license services, such as applications, import-export permits and other licensing activities.

The workshops drew more than 500 participants from a wide variety of UAE industries, with a majority coming from the health-care industry, which uses radiation as a diagnostic and treatment tool. Participants also received information about licensing fees and the penalties that UAE law empowers FANR to collect from licensees who fail to comply with their regulatory obligations.

"Workshops like these are part of FANR’s stakeholder awareness strategy to ensure excellence in our customer services and transparency. We are committed to the happiness of our customers by providing service channels that offer more convenience in their day-to-day requirements," said Ms. Al Shehi.
