Croatian authorities released on Friday Fikret Abdic, a former officer of the Bosnian Army, who had spent 11 years in prison for committing crimes against humanity. Croatian Interior Ministry said in a statement that Abdic was freed from prison after spending two thirds of the term behind bars. Thousands of Abdic\'s supporters gathered outside the prison of Pola, located in the northern coastal region of Croatia, to greet him as he emerged from the prison. Abdic had defected from the Bosnian Army and formed his own military force. The breakaway squad was accused of committing genocides against civilian Bosnians during the Bosnian war in the 90s.
