A French police source on Wednesday named the man suspected of a series of deadly shootings as Mohammed Merah, a 24-year Frenchman of Algerian origin. The suspect -- currently barricaded inside a Toulouse apartment -- had previously been arrested on a matter of common law in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, cradle of the Taliban, another police source said.
