German Defence Minister Thomas de Maiziere arrived in Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan Wednesday on an unannounced visit. The minister plans to visit the disaster protection forces of the German army stationed in Kandahar, according to the German news agency (DPA). De Maiziere is the first German Defence minister to visit Kandahar as the main camp of the German army is located in the city of Mazar e Sharif in northern Afghanistan.
