Police are looking for the driver of the truck

A German security expert suggested Wednesday that German army forces would give a hand to police forces in providing security to citizens.

The suggestion came following Monday's attack on a Christmas market in central Berlin that left 12 people dead and nearly 50 others wounded, of whom 24 have been released from hospital.

The expert of the Christian Social Party told Deutsche Welle newspaper that the German army should bear some responsibilities in securing citizens in a way that suits its equipment.

Daesh militant group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.

The announcement came hours after German prosecutors released a 23-year-old Pakistani asylum seeker who was detained in connection with the truck attack, citing a lack of evidence.

A manhunt has been launched in Berlin and rest of Germany to find the truck driver after the real truck driver, a Polish national, was found killed inside the truck.
