Vincenzo Lauro, a spokesman for the Italian contingent of the NATO force in Afghanistan, says a suicide bombing plot against its forces and local authorities has been thwarted. Lauro noted that the success came after months of Italian intelligence work. He said authorities detained ten Afghan suspects and seized explosives for car bombs, as well as vests and belts packed with explosives for suicide bombings. Last Saturday a mortar attack on an Italian outpost in Afghanistan killed one soldier and wounded five others.
