Italy's embassy in Cairo dismissed press reports that the Italian Foreign Ministry had recalled its ambassador in Cairo over the killing of Italian student Giulio Regeni.

In a statement on Monday, the embassy said the reports appeared in Italian newspapers and that they do not reflect the official stance of the Italian government. 

Regeni, 28, disappeared in January and his body was found in a ditch at the beginning of this month. Egypt had invited Italian investigators to take part in the probe.
