Italy has recalled all staff from its embassy in Damascus, suspending diplomatic activity in Syria. The country’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that the move was taken for security reasons. Another aim was to demonstrate Rome\'s “strongest possible condemnation of the unacceptable violence” in Syria, the ministry stressed. At the same time, Italy promised to work towards a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis and support the UN and Arab League efforts.
