Jordanian monarch King Abdullah II held in London a discussion session with British Prime Minister David Cameron on political developments in the Middle East and the efforts made to achieve peace on the basis of the two-state solution, the exacerbating situation in Syria and ways of bolstering bilateral cooperation. The Jordanian monarch underlined Britain’s vital role in helping the Palestinian and Israeli sides go back to direct negotiations to solve all issues and help establish an independent Palestinian state that lives in peace side by side with Israel as per international resolutions and the Arab peace initiative. King Abdullah II warned of the Israeli unilateral policies on the Palestinian lands, including mainly the ongoing construction of settlements. He also cautioned about increasing tension and instability in the region unless Israel honours its obligations to press ahead with the peace process. The Jordanian Monarch voiced concern over mounting violence in Syria and its repercussions on the whole region, including mainly neighbourly countries. He also expressed belief in the need for a political solution for the Syrian crisis and to support the efforts of the UN and Arab Special Envoy Kufi Anan to reach a solution to stop bloodshed in Syria and maintain the country’s territorial and social unity.
