Dubai Angry Jordanians have hurled shoes at Israeli tourists in the Karak province to the west of the country, a local daily reported. According to Al Raya Al Yawm, the Jordanian citizens and shop owners were shocked to see six passengers, men and women, get off three cars near the market in Rabba to do their shopping wearing black yarmulkes. After a tourist entered a shop, the owner took off his shoe and hit the tourist’s head while chasing him out. The other tourists tried to defuse the tension, but the situation deteriorated as merchants and citizens got involved, the daily said. The Jordanians shouted at the Israelis for allegedly provoking the Jordanians with their yarmulkes and hit them with their shoes, according to the newspaper report. The tourists eventually left and the merchants insisted that the Israelis were not welcome in the market. “Those who talk about peace between Jordanians and Israelis live an illusion and signing agreements is nothing more than worthless ink on paper,” the merchants allegedly said. Rabba, 15 kilometres from the city of Karak, has a population of about 9,000 people, including 3,000 Palestinians.
