Afghan President Hamid Karzai and British Prime Minister David Cameron on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a British-style military academy in Afghanistan, Pajhwok Afghan News reported. The military academy would be similar to a modern academy in the United Kingdom and would be very important to train Afghan forces, Karzai said as he addressed a press conference after signing the MoU. Meanwhile Cameron, who arrived on an unannounced visit to Afghanistan, during which he met British troops and local security officials in southern Helmand province on Wednesday, said he wants to see a \"stable and self-sufficient\" nation, wishing Afghan security forces to be able to defend the country in the near future. \"The United Kingdom is committed to continuing its support to the Afghan National Security Forces and to the professional development of the force. It is intended thus, to create an enduring link between the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and the Afghan National Army Officer Academy,\" said the MoU.
