Moscow supports the demand for Syrian government forces to pull out from cities, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday. “The Syrian government must take the first step and begin the troops\' pullout,” the minister said at a news conference in Yerevan. The demand is part of a peace plan proposed by the UN and Arab League envoy for Syria, Kofi Annan. Lavrov stressed that the pullout will not be successful if it is not backed by groups fighting the government forces.
