Ministerial meeting on Syria starts in Paris

A ministerial meeting of like-minded countries kicked off in Paris on Saturday to probe means by which to protect civilians in Syria, Aleppo in particular. 

The meeting is meant to resume negotiations to reach a political settlement in the Arab country. 

Attending the event are the foreign ministers of France, the US, Germany, Britain, Turkey and Qatar.

Representatives from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Italy and Jordan are also here for the get-together, as well the EU foreign policy chief. 

Riyad Hijab, the coordinator of the higher negotiations authority, which represents the Syrian opposition, is also present.

Also, Brita Haji Hassan, the chairperson of the municipal council of Aleppo - opposition - is attending the talks.

The meeting will look into a strategy that the world community should adopt in light of terrorist Daesh's retreat. 

Figuring high at the talks will also be efforts to settle the long conflict in Syria.

The Syrian crisis will also be on the agenda of a meeting between the top diplomats of the US and Russia due to take place in Geneva later today.
