Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum today presented Palestinian teacher Hanan Al Hroub with the 2016 US$1 million Global Teacher Prize Sheikh Mohammed presented Al Hroub with the prize at the Dubai-based Varkey Foundation's ceremony at Atlantis The Palm Dubai Hotel & Resort during the Global Education and Skills forum.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, were present.

Now in its second year, the US$1 m award for teaching is the largest prize of its kind. The Global Teacher Prize was set up to recognise one exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution while shining a spotlight on the important role teachers play in society.
