Dutch Ambassador in Amman Paul Van den IJssel has announced that the embassy launched a series of new programs to support Jordan in defiance of Syrian crisis challenges.
Syrian refugees represent 20% of population in Jordan.
During a meeting with a number of representatives from international agencies working in Jordan, IJssel highlighted the importance of backing Jordanian efforts to deal with pressing issues including the files of education, economic development, good governance, renewable energy and humanitarian assistance.
The Dutch diplomat said his country is well aware of pressure imposed on public services and infrastructure in Jordan, adding Jordan adopted positive measures following the London conference in February, which made it easy for Syrian children to join schools and offer job opportunities to the Syrians.
In response to the Syrian crisis, he said the Netherlands launched a regional fund for supporting affected countries including Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq with euros 260 million during the period between 2016-2019.
The Netherlands is supporting Jordan with euros 130.1 million in the same period, according to IJssel.
