New Zealand troops in Afghanistan could be withdrawn earlier than the planned 2014 deadline, reports said Wednesday. Radio New Zealand reported that the government was considering bringing its 140 soldiers home early if NATO agrees. The troops are serving with a reconstruction team in Bamyan province. New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully told Radio New Zealand that Bamyan is likely to be one of the first provinces where transition to local forces is completed. New Zealand's Special Air Service ended operations in Kabul in March. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Tuesday outlined plans to withdraw troops from Afghanistan earlier than originally planned.
