The government of Portugal expressed, in a statement Sunday, its regret over a recent decision by Israeli authorities to declare 2,342 dunums near Jericho as “state land”.

The statement said such a decision constitutes a new obstacle in the way of achieving the two-state solution, which it said, was the only path to achieve peace, security and stability in the region.

The Portuguese government called on Israel to reconsider the decision, and called on both, Israelis and Palestinians, to get back to the negotiations table.
