Greek Ambassador here Chris Lazaris said on Wednesday the embassy started necessary preparations for the visit of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to Egypt, scheduled next week.

Relations between Egypt and Greece reached a highest level after the exchange of visits between high-ranking officials of the two countries, including that of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Athens in December, the diplomat said at a ceremony Tuesday evening on the occasion of Greece's Independence Day.

The ambassador underlined the importance of new Suez Canal, saying it is a gateway for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
