Five inmates died when a fire broke out during a prison riot in western Indonesia, local media reported. 
The riot was sparked when anti-narcotics officers searched the cell of a convicted drug lord at Malabero Prison in Bengkulu on Sumatra island late Friday, news outlet liputan6 reported online. 
The officials confiscated a bag of methamphetamine and took the inmate away, prompting hundreds of inmates to riot and break out of their cells, according to the report. 
The fire appeared to have started in the searched cell, the report said. 
The more than 250 inmates were evacuated to neighbouring prisons, but five inmates were found burned to death after the fire was extinguished close to midnight. 
"We are investigating every inmate to find the mastermind who caused the riot," Bengkulu police chief Ardian Indra Nurinta was quoted as saying. 
Indonesian prisons are notoriously overcrowded, and drug dealers are often able to continue operations despite the country's intensified clampdown against narcotics.
