Lebanon\'s Progressive Socialist Party denounced Tuesday the recent bombing of a Shiite endowment foundation in Baghdad that led to the killing of 25 people. “The party decries the terrorist bombings that targeted the Shiite endowment foundation headquarters in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and led to tens of people being killed and wounded,” the party said in a statement. At 11:00 a.m. Monday, an attack outside the Shiite endowment in Baab al-Muadham, central Baghdad, left at least 25 people dead and more than 65 wounded. The attack was one of Baghdad’s deadliest in the past four months. The Lebanese party said the attack aimed at exacerbating ideological differences and sectarianism in order “to drag the country back into violence and fighting.” It also urged all political parties in Iraq to be aware of the dangers facing their country and called on them to meet their responsibilities through national dialogue. The PSP also warned that a lack of agreement by the various political forces on ways to heal rifts at the domestic level and reduce divisions would render the country more vulnerable to regional intervention which would come at the expense of the interests of Iraq.
