Pullout of British and European diplomats and embassy personnel in Tehran will hurt Iran, the US State department cautioned Wednesday.\"You\'re seeing both a chorus of international condemnation as well as actions on the part of countries around the world that reflect Iran\'s isolation,\" said spokesman Mark Toner, after Britain pulled its entire diplomatic corps out of the country, and ordered all Iranian diplomats to leave the United Kingdom within 48 hours in response to the ransacking of the British Embassy in Tehran.Germany also pulled it\'s ambassador to Iran for consultations in response to the attack on the British embassy.Toner defended Britain and Germany\'s decisions, saying, \"it\'s their sovereign decision to protect their own civilians, their own diplomats who are on the ground\".Separately, the White House demanded \"clarity\" from Iran on whether they will protect foreign diplomats, following the fallout.\"We are looking for some clarity from the Iranian regime that they\'re going to live up to their international obligations to protect the welfare and safety of diplomats, that they will condemn the mob action that occurred at the embassy, and that those who perpetrated that act will be held accountable, \" the White House said.
