A Russian banker shot near his London home was in critical but stable condition Friday, doctors said. German Gorbuntsov, 46, was reported to be in an induced coma three days after the shooting in the Canary Wharf neighborhood, The Independent said. Police said Gorbuntsov was shot with an automatic weapon several times Tuesday as he entered the luxury building where he lived. He moved to London in 2010. Gorbuntsov was under guard at a London hospital, authorities said. The banker had a checkered history, the newspaper said, spending time in prison for armed robbery in the 1980s before becoming a businessman. A former partner, Alexei Frenkel, was found guilty in 2008 of killing the deputy head of the central bank. A Russian newspaper, Kommersant, said police wanted to question him about the attempted killing of another banker in 2009, calling him both a witness and potential suspect.
