Qom - Irna
Deputy Communications Head of Supreme Leader’s Office said here Wednesday US has not left Iraq, but changed its tactic there, and that country’s new tactic in Iraq, too, is doomed to defeat. According to IRNA, Hojjatoleslam Mohsen Qomi who was speaking at a commemoration service for top researcher students of Qom Theological Sciences University, further reiterated, “The United States has planned for establishing the largest embassy in the world in Iraq with 15 thousand employees, and to spend billions of dollars for their so called safeguarding of democracy.” Referring to defeats of the US policies in Iraq he said, “The United States has not been able in establishment of security for the Iraqi people, and has on the contrary contributed to the expansion of insecurity and terrorism in that country to a great extent.” The Deputy Communications Head of Supreme Leader’s Office referring to the point that resistance is the secret of victory and prosperity of the nations, said, “We must strengthen the spirit of resistance among the Muslim masses, particularly in the regional countries.” Qomi said, “The experience of the Lebanese Hezbollah, as a Shi’a organization, and Hamas, as a Sunni group, against the enemies proved that resistance is the best way for confrontation with the oppression, with those who attribute partners to Allah, and with the polytheists.” He added, “Today the Islamic Revolution has found a new, special position in the world and we, too, have to do our best to safeguard and improve that position.” Hojjatoleslam Qomi referred to the developments in the region and the Islamic world, arguing, “We must increase our intellectual and revolutionary products and we must inform the world nations effectively.” The member of the Leadership Experts Assembly said, “Keeping in mind the status quo of the world, some of us who are sound asleep are either ignorant, or dizzy, because who would have believed the downfall of the US allies in the region, the rise of Islamic tendencies, and the chanting of Down With USA slogans in those countries?” The Leader’s office official added, “Presently thousands of internet websites and satellite TV networks have started their polytheist works and over 300 thousand sites, too, are commissioned to alter the life styles of our women into a liberal way of life, and this makes our responsibility for campaign against cultural onslaught a lot heavier.” A number of top theological sciences professors and students from across Iran were applauded and awarded at the event. About 400 US Army paratroopers who were among the last soldiers to leave Iraq landed in the rain here late Tuesday. Similar scenes have been playing out across USA as the final units to take part in the nearly nine-year conflict make their way home. Fort Bragg has held a dozen such celebrations in the past month, including one on Dec. 14 attended by President Barack Obama, who called it \'a historic moment.\' A smaller group of soldiers from Fort Bragg is due to arrive Thursday, with the last expected on Christmas Eve. Next week, a few more are expected to arrive back at Fort Hood in Texas by the end of the year. About 400 US Army paratroopers who were among the last to leave Iraq returned to Fort Bragg late Tuesday, after seven months of training Iraqi Security Forces. The brigade was part of the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, the safeguarding of two elections and the 2007 surge. Its members helped to train the Iraq security forces and helped the military hand US operations in Iraq to the State Department. The returning soldiers spent much of their final seven-month deployment breaking down the camps and gear accumulated over nearly a decade, doing everything from guarding exit routes to discarding old printers. The war cost US taxpayers more than $800 billion and has claimed more than 4,400 American lives, including 202 soldiers from Fort Bragg. The most recent was the brigade\'s own Spc. David E. Hickman, who was likely the last soldier killed in the war when a roadside bomb ravaged his armored truck on Nov. 14. The soldiers say they expect to be set aside for at least a year before they are redeployed. Some are leaving the Army for an uncertain job market or rejoining spouses who have struggled to find work. A member of the Iraqi parliament voiced deep concern over the surge in the number of the US Embassy staff in Baghdad, and noted that Washington wants to use the embassy for intelligence goals. \'The presence of more than 15,000 US Embassy staff members in Iraq is really worrying since there is no such thing in any part of the world, no embassy has such a large number of staffers,\' member of the Iraqi parliament\'s Security and Defense Commission Hossein Ali told Iran’s Fars News Agency in Baghdad. Noting the possible cause of such a high number of US embassy staff, the lawmaker said, \'There is a strong possibility that the White House officials intend to use such a large number of staff for intelligence and spying objectives both against Iraq and the neighboring states.\' He called on Iraq\'s intelligence bodies to deal seriously with the case since the issue can be a security threat to the country. There are currently over 8,000 personnel working at the US Embassy in Iraq and Washington plans to double the number following the withdrawal of American troops from the country by the year\'s end. The number of personnel under the authority of the US ambassador to Iraq will swell from 8,000 to about 16,000 as the troop presence is drawn down, the US State Department official said. \'About 10 percent of them would be core programmatic staff, 10 percent management and aviation, 30 percent life support contractors - and 50 percent security,\' he said. Iraqi lawmakers say the US is planning to turn its embassy in Baghdad into an intelligence operation center. Political analysts believe that by increasing its staff to 16,000, Washington is indicating it does not want to end the occupation of Iraq. The US Embassy in Baghdad is America\'s largest mission in the world. Nearly nine years after American troops stormed across Iraq\'s border in a blaze of shock, US officials quietly ended the bloody and bitterly divisive conflict in Iraq last week, but the debate over whether it was worth the cost in money and lives is yet unanswered in the US. Nearly 4,500 Americans and 100,000 Iraqis have got killed in the course of the US occupation of Iraq. Another 32,000 American and tens of thousands of Iraqis have been wounded and the war has cost the US taxpayers billions of dollars.
