Riyadh - Arab Today
Saudi Foreign Ministry on Saturday welcomed the adoption of a resolution by UN Security Council calling on Israel to stop settlement activities.
In a statement published by the Saudi News Agency (SPA), a reliable source at the Saudi Foreign Ministry said the UN vote asserted that the Israeli settlements have no legal validity.
The official expressed hope that the resolution should be a step on way to revive the peace process according to the UN resolution and the Arab Peace Initiative.
On Friday, the Security Council adopted resolution no. 2334 which states that the establishment of Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, have “no legal validity,” constitute a “flagrant violation” under international law and are a “major obstacle” to a two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.
