South Korea says that if North Korea conducts a fifth nuclear test, it will immediately push for a fresh and tougher UN resolution through close cooperation with the U.S., China, Japan and Russia.
Seoul's Vice Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, cited by KBS World Radio, says that "if North Korea conducts a fifth nuclear test, South Korea will immediately push for a fresh and tougher UN resolution through close cooperation with the U.S., China, Japan and Russia".
The vice minister made the remarks on Thursday during an emergency security meeting with the ruling Saenuri Party at the National Assembly.
While noting that the North appears to be suffering under current UN Security Council sanctions, Cho said that the government will continue to put comprehensive pressure on the North until Pyongyang realizes it cannot survive without changing.
He added that a series of the North’s recent military provocations including the fourth nuclear test and missile launch seem to have been carried out in line with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s order on March 13th.
Cho said that the government believes the regime may engage in additional provocations around the North's seventh party congress set for May sixth.
